Coronado Island vacation

Coronado Island is one of the top vacation spots in San Diego. Located in the beautiful San Diego bay, it is famously known for its ideal beaches and relaxing resort environment. Coronado Island has long been the getaway of famous Hollywood celebrities like Brad Pitt and Madonna, and it was also the setting for the film “Some Like it Hot”, which starred Marilyn Monroe and Jack Lemmon.

The Travel Channel has named Coronado Beach one of the best beaches for families in the world. In order to make your stay at Coronado the best it can be, we’ve put together some helpful tips.

Hotel Accommodations

Obviously, it’s a good idea to book hotel accommodations a few weeks in advance of your stay. A good way to avoid a lot of the hassle of hotel booking is to do it online, through the hotel’s website. Once you make a reservation for a Coronado hotel, you can be sure that all information will be accurate upon arrival.

As for which hotel to stay at in Coronado Island, there are a lot options. Hotel Del Coronado is the obvious first choice. It’s a historic location that has been and still is frequented by many vacationing celebrities. If you want more affordable options, though, there are also a lot of great hotels to choose from. The Coronado Beach Resort, for example, is a mid-range hotel that features full condo suites complete with kitchens and private balconies as well as rooftop spas with an ocean view.

Getting to Coronado Island from San Diego

If you’re arriving by plane to San Diego, the best way to get to Coronado Island is by taking the Coronado Ferry. It goes from Broadway Pier, on the San Diego side of the bay, to the Coronado Ferry Landing. It’s a unique experience that offers plenty of photo ops. The ferry runs hourly form 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. If you’re driving, you can take the Coronado Bay Bridge off the I-5 freeway, which offers equally stunning views.

Take a Tour

Walking tours are a great way to get acquainted with the Island when you first arrive. Walking tours are available several times a week and they leave from the Glorietta Bay Inn. If you’re not the walking type, there are also Segway, or Electro-Glide tours, as well as pedicab tours by Coronado Pedicabs.

Seeing the Sights

Once you’ve settled in to your hotel room in Coronado Island, there are a ton of things to do and see, both on the Island and in San Diego. You can see many of the main attractions San Diego has to offer by taking the Old Town Trolley from Coronado. The trolley loops around the city, making stops at Balboa Park (which has a ton of museums and the World Famous San Diego Zoo), historic Old Town, Horton Plaza and the Sea Port Village shops.
